Donna Fone, LMFT, LPCC - California and North Carolina Somatic Psychotherapy

My interest in the body’s wisdom and capacity for healing stems from my yoga practice of over 30 years and my own journey through life. I believe that every moment is a chance to practice the meditation of being fully present, with self, with others, and with whatever is arising in and around us. It is from this awareness that we sense ourselves and our impulses towards a healthy and fully embodied aliveness. I provide a compassionate and nurturing space in which you can explore more deeply, areas of yourself that were previously unknown. My sensitive and calm presence is an anchor to those that wish to embark on a journey of self-discovery.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the States of California, New York, and North Carolina as well as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California. I am a graduate of the Counseling Psychology masters program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. In addition to my graduate studies focusing on somatic (body-centered) psychology, I have studied extensively in various somatic modalities. I am a Certified Hakomi Therapist and Teacher and trained with Ron Kurtz, founder of the method, until his passing in 2011; I have continued Hakomi studies with Donna Martin and Flint Sparks. I am certified in both EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Brainspotting, evidenced-based practices to alleviate the symptoms of trauma both big and small. I have completed the one-year Training for the Treatment of Trauma through the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute. I completed the two-year Leadership and Transformation program with Kathlyn Hendricks, PhD, and Gay Hendricks, PhD and am a certified life and relationship coach. I have worked in the realm of addictions and understand the connection between addiction and trauma. For fourteen years, I co-directed the renowned Piedmont Yoga Studio in Oakland, California and taught yoga for over twenty years.

As Parenting Counselor at a women’s residential recovery center, I worked with children ages 0-4 and their mothers to create healthy relationships. I have witnessed first-hand, the impact of the parent-child attachment relationship on the child’s development. I have also provided counseling to school-age children in a local school district and have worked with adolescents.

I work with individuals, couples and families experiencing a range of stressful life situations such as a traumatic event, death of a loved-one, illness, separation/divorce, family conflict, substance abuse recovery, and life transitions. I work with people who want to know themselves better and to create more joy in their lives. I welcome people of all ages, races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religious or spiritual beliefs. When working with clients, I draw on all my experience and training and seamlessly weave them together in a way that is most appropriate and beneficial for the client’s healing and wellbeing.
