Sensorimotor Psychotherapy was founded by Pat Ogden, PhD who also co-founded the Hakomi Institute in Boulder, Colorado along with Ron Kurtz and others.  Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a body-oriented talking therapy that integrates verbal techniques with body-centered interventions in the treatment of trauma, attachment, and developmental issues.  This method uses elements similar to Hakomi (present moment mindfulness and experiments) to foster the client’s body-sense of self, insight, resources, and healing.  The therapist works within the client’s ‘window of tolerance’ while fostering mindfulness in the client.  The client’s resources and strengths are brought to light so that the client begins to feel more efficacy in day-to-day life.  Sensorimotor Psychotherapy can be part of short-term or long-term therapy.
