I am a somatically-oriented psychotherapist which means that I pay close attention not only to what you say with words, but what the other parts of you are saying as well: your tone of voice, your gestures, your pace, your body tension or ease, your internal experience… These are all parts of your experience that can be brought to awareness and explored.
My interest in somatic psychology stems from my yoga practice and my own experience of crises and transformation. During a challenging period in my life, I found that my ways of moving and seeing had become habitual and it was through the different lenses of various somatic modalities that I began to see and experience myself differently. I found that focusing on my body’s present moment experience was a catalyst for tremendous healing.
Most of us have denied our body’s natural ability to know. If we add our body’s way of knowing to the power of our mind, we can begin to see outside of the deep habitual grooves we have created. So in a session, we may begin by talking….AND with my gentle encouragement, you may begin to sense the body and incorporate it’s knowing into the conversation and the healing that arises. Sometimes, the body does all the talking and the mind comes in later to begin to integrate the new information. My intention is to support you wherever you are in your exploration and to assist you in taking the steps towards something new.
